The world has changed in such an impactful way, moving forward requires new mindsets and approaches. Enabling creativity and innovation in the workplace will be critical and this relies on your people to engage and drive new ways of working. This is no means an easy task, especially considering there is a lot of anxiety & fear surrounding this subject, however there are great opportunities that can be explored and developed within organisations that will drive positive outcomes. How organisations develop their "Future of Work' strategy will greatly define how they will either succeed or be left behind, both from a business and people perspective.
As leaders’ focus shifts from the position of ‘if’ they should enable their teams to work remotely to ‘how’ it could be implemented is the new challenge for most organisations. Changing their mindsets from what are they doing ie how many hours are they working to how effective is their work output is a substantial change required for future of work changes to be embraced. The reality is flexible work practices and employee wellbeing, key components of a new way of working, are no longer a 'nice-to-have', they will be critical to remain ahead of the pack.
There are significant other considerations when designing your future of work strategy such as workforce planning to ensure you have the right skills and capabilities for the future, how to address issues of mental health and wellbeing, safety in the workplace and at home, how collaboration and the organisation's culture adapts under new ways of working and having access to data and the right tools needed to get work done. No small feat but plenty of opportunities for organisations take on the challenge.
Future of work is such a big topic so just understanding where to start can be the biggest challenge so that's where I can assist. Whether that be facilitating a workshop with Executive, leadership or People & Culture teams to understand current landscape versus future needs through to developing and implementing a contemporary strategy and initiatives. A half day workshop would be an approx $1,000 investment into establishing how your organisation can set up an unique future value proposition for your workforce.
I secured an opportunity to partner with the City of Marion, Adelaide for three months, to work with the People & Culture team and business to bring to life their "Workforce of the Future' strategy. This has involved working remotely from another state, establishing existing practices and processes in place to tweak or re-design key people enablers for the future direction such as the workforce planning model, employee experiences and talent management that will allow the council to achieve its strategic direction by 2025.
